.Case studies .Case studies

During the first two years of the project the eLene2learn network collected more than 60 case studies, where teachers and students of Secondary and Higher Education provide practical tips and indications on their "first hand" learning experiences using ICT and digital media. This "collection" contains two different types of report:

  • The "How to guide" scenarios describe current practices, tools and methodologies used in the application of ICT to develop learning to learn competencies. The scenarios were collected through Focus Group with students and teachers; Download the printable version of the "How to guide"
  • The Case studies report, in detail the implementation of  practices, methodologies and tools used within real classroom settings. Recommendations and suggestions help you assess the benefit of replicating these practices, methodologies, etc. in your own context. These resources are highly valuable as they come from a direct evaluation by  students and teachers involved.  Some of these resources are (also) partly available in Italian, French, Greek, Finnish, Polish, Spanish and German. If the translations  are available, you can find the translations directly on the sub-pages of each case study. (The most recent Case Studies are listed first on the top); Download the printable version of the Implementation Report.

You can browse the case studies here by Benefits and Tags. The two different type of report can be easily filtered using corresponding tags.

For restoring your filters to the default (blank) settings, just click on the pink button "CLEAR".

Organization of Distance Based Courses of the French Language

.Level (age of students)
HE students (in our case this scenario was implemented by SE teachers of French, who were working on their thesis during their master's degree)

Teaching French to rural primary schools through Skype, blogs & moodle

.Category of the tool

Skype, blogs, moodle

.Language of the tool or resource

.Purpose of use
The objectives of this pedagogical intervention is twofold: - development and adaptation of a distance based curriculum of the French language to the learning profile of primary education pupils (beginners) - exploitation of the educational potential of ICT tools for the personal development of teachers and the improvement of educational opportunities of rural pupils This scenario is proposed with the view to demonstrate how a series of ICT tools, when combined in an efficient way, can develop learning2learn competences to SE teachers. As such it is proposed not in terms of delivered content, but in terms of the tools used.

.Way of use (as individual or group activity; tasks; etc.)
SE Teachers of the master's degree program in cooperation with the teachers of the rural schools – who had the role of facilitator- visited all schools, met the pupils and started to develop learning activities tailored to the needs of the participants; They used moodle as a common platform; they worked collaboratively on the continuously developed material (i), blogs as a diary of their courses (ii) and Skype as communication channel (iii). Courses took place once a week, and lasted 45 minutes. This project was completed within a school year. In certain cases there were internet connection problems, which at 2009, were not possible to sort out. An HE teacher from the Open University of Patras supervised the whole approach

.Learn2Learn competencies

.Advantages of such a use for Transition. Innovative use
The implementation of such scenario was innovative as teachers of SE (i.e teachers of French) had the chance -as post graduate students- to use creatively ICT tools, cooperate with their peers and facilitators, organize the material and the course at the most efficient way, handle difficulties successfully, find solutions when something went wrong, interact with the pupils and assign tasks accordingly. This pedagogical intervention differentiates a lot from their tasks and duties in the school; SE teachers of French that participated in this pilot program realized in practice the importance of learning2learn competences and were able to transfer this experience back to their pupils as soon as their post graduate studies were completed.

.Disadvantages of such a use
High speed internet connection is necessary.
