.Case studies .Case studies

During the first two years of the project the eLene2learn network collected more than 60 case studies, where teachers and students of Secondary and Higher Education provide practical tips and indications on their "first hand" learning experiences using ICT and digital media. This "collection" contains two different types of report:

  • The "How to guide" scenarios describe current practices, tools and methodologies used in the application of ICT to develop learning to learn competencies. The scenarios were collected through Focus Group with students and teachers; Download the printable version of the "How to guide"
  • The Case studies report, in detail the implementation of  practices, methodologies and tools used within real classroom settings. Recommendations and suggestions help you assess the benefit of replicating these practices, methodologies, etc. in your own context. These resources are highly valuable as they come from a direct evaluation by  students and teachers involved.  Some of these resources are (also) partly available in Italian, French, Greek, Finnish, Polish, Spanish and German. If the translations  are available, you can find the translations directly on the sub-pages of each case study. (The most recent Case Studies are listed first on the top); Download the printable version of the Implementation Report.

You can browse the case studies here by Benefits and Tags. The two different type of report can be easily filtered using corresponding tags.

For restoring your filters to the default (blank) settings, just click on the pink button "CLEAR".

Using Prezi collaboratively online

.Level (age of students)
Second year of SE (students 17-18 year old)

Biology/Human biology/ skin (advanced course)

.Category of the tool

Prezi (cloud-based presentation software)& Skype (voice communication service)

.Language of the tool or resource
Finnish, English

.Purpose of use
The purpose was to test Prezi´s online tool in group work and in editing Prezi presentation. Maximum 10 persons can modify the same Prezi document at the same time. Students have to create a Prezi account before they can modify Prezi. When working Online students can create an "avatar" (virtual human being). Avatars were not useful because Prezi do not have discussion tool between avatars. That is why students innovatively used Skype as a discussion tool during the task. It was found also easy to connect own pictures, YouTube-videos etc. in Prezi.

.Way of use (as individual or group activity; tasks; etc.)
Group activity including 9 active volunteers. The task was to compress study book´s chapter "skin" as a Prezi document. Compression requires evaluating skills + active virtual discussion between group members. Students also worked as evaluators when they evaluated the final presentation.

.Learn2Learn competencies
Thinking, problem solving and decision making
Communication (reading and writing)

.Advantages of such a use for Transition. Innovative use
Pupils scanned some formerly done (paper & pencil) notes on the issue and linked those to the Prezi document. This task encourages students to use methods useful in HE studies, they learn for example to combine information from several sources, to take responsibilities, to solve problems collaboratively, to peer assess etc.

.Disadvantages of such a use
Prezi does not have any useful Online-discussion tools. Innovative students decided to use Skype but this is not the case with all students. Instructions have to be carefully prepared before working. Also, pupils need previous knowledge about the technical use of Prezi before this kind of activity.
